A Legend About Chinese Chunmee Tea 41022： Lu Yu's Tea Brewing

During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Daizong, Li Yu, had a fondness for tea, and there were skilled tea connoisseurs serving in the palace. One day, a monk named Jigong from Jiling (present-day Tianmen, Hubei) was summoned to the palace. The palace's tea master brewed a bowl of tea using the finest tea leaves and offered it to Jigong for tasting. Chunmee Tea 41022. After taking a sip, Jigong refused to drink any more. When the emperor asked why, Jigong replied, "The tea I drink is all brewed by my disciple, Lu Yu. After drinking his tea, others' brews taste bland and flavorless." The emperor took note of this and later sent people to search for Lu Yu. Eventually, they found him on Tianzhu Mountain in Tiaoxi, Wuxing County, and brought him to the palace.

Upon meeting Lu Yu, the emperor noticed his unremarkable appearance and a slight stutter in his speech. However, through their conversation, the emperor recognized Lu Yu's profound knowledge and extraordinary insights, which delighted him. Chunmee Tea 41022.  The emperor immediately ordered Lu Yu to brew tea. Lu Yu carefully brewed the purple bamboo shoots tea he had brought, which was harvested before Qingming, and presented it to the emperor. The tea exuded a delightful aroma, had a rich taste, and its clear liquor and green leaves were truly exceptional.

The emperor eagerly requested another bowl and had it sent to Jigong in his study. Jigong received the tea bowl, took a sip, and exclaimed its excellence. He then drank it all in one go. Chunmee Tea 41022.  After putting down the tea bowl, he walked out of the study, repeatedly calling out, "Jian'er (Lu Yu's courtesy name), where are you?" Surprised, the emperor asked, "How did you know that Lu Yu had arrived?" Jigong replied, "The tea I just drank can only be brewed by him, so naturally, he must have come to the palace."
